Osaka Takes Walkover Into US Open Third Round

Naomi Osaka reached round three of the US Open without striking a shot.

The defending US Open champion took a walkover into the third round when scheduled opponent Olga Danilovic withdrew due to a medical reason she identified as "a non-Covid related viral illness."

The third-seeded Osaka was scheduled to open play on Arthur Ashe Stadium at noon today.




Instead, the four-time Grand Slam champion hit an indoor practice court with coach Wim Fissette to prepare for the third round vs. either Kaia Kanepi or Leylah Fernandez.

he match between No. 12 seed Simona Halep and Kristina Kucova will move to Arthur Ashe Stadium as the first match of the day session.
