29-year-old qualifier Luca Vanni of Italy had never won an ATP match prior to this week’s Brasil Open in Sao Paulo, so it’s safe to say that he’d never won an ATP title before either.

That could change tomorrow.

The world No. 149 continued his remarkable run in Brazil with a 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-4 victory over Joao Souza to reach his first ATP World Tour final in dramatic fashion.

Vanni missed on two match points in the second set during his wild encounter with the Brazilian, but he came through in the third set, rallying from a break down to reel off the final three games to close the match in two hours and 56 minutes.

The nine-year pro from Castel del Piano had never played a tour-level match until this season.

Vanni’s opponent in the final will by Uruguay’s Pablo Cuevas. Cuevas eased past Santiago Giraldo in the day’s second semifinal, 6-4, 6-3.
