18-year-old American Brandon Nakashima is into the quarterfinals at the Delray Beach Open without the loss of a set.

The former junior World No.4, currently ranked 294 in the world, defeated Great Britain’s Cameron Norrie 7-5 6-2 to book his trip to the last eight. Nakashima, who played a season of college tennis at the University of Virginia before turning pro, will face Japan’s Yoshihito Nishioka next.

Nishioka eased past American qualifier Noah Rubin 6-1 6-2.

With his new coach Aussie legend Pat Cash in attendance, Nakashima won eight of the final ten games against the World No.60 and won an impressive 18 of 27 second-serve points in the match.

Nakashima broke open a close match with a break in the 12th game of the opening set and in the second set he dropped just six points on serve and converted both of his break points to win going away.

The San Diego native has an impressive all court game and is comfortable in all areas of the court. He’s able to create some impressive angles with his backhand and produced some scintillating winners off that side on Wednesday.

Nakashima entered the week with a 0-4 record against the Top 100 but has produced wins against World No.74 Jiri Vesely and World No.60 Norrie in succession to become the fourth youngest quarterfinalist in Delray Beach history.

In other action on Wednesday in Florida South Korea’s Soonwoo Kwon knocked off wild card Ryan Harrison, 6-4 3-6 7-6(0).
