According to reports, Naomi Osaka has withdrawn from Wimbledon, but is planning to make her return for the Tokyo Olympics.

The Japanese star didn’t release a statement through her social media, instead electing to let her team release the news through a statement.

Tennis Now first learned of the news through ESPN.

Earlier this spring, Osaka pulled out of Roland-Garros after her first-round victory, ending a controversial week in Paris. She originally stated that she planned to boycott the press at Paris, and when the four Grand Slams reacted with strong disapproval, levying fines and threatening a suspension, she decided to withdraw from the tournament, citing mental health concerns.

Osaka said she has been suffering bouts of depression since 2018 and admitted to feeling high anxiety about fulfilling her press duties in the past.

According to the statement she plans the return for the Tokyo Olympics, which will begin near the end of July.
