Juan Martin del Potro will undergo a fourth surgery on his right knee on Tuesday in Chicago. The former World No.3 posted the news on Instagram and mentions that he is rushing the surgery because he wants to begin rehabbing so that he can be ready to make his comeback at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.

“I wanted to say hello and tell you I’m currently in Chicago,” Del Potro wrote on Instagram. “I’ve been consulting Dr. Jorge Chahla and the news is that tomorrow I’ll undergo another surgery on my knee. We’ve tried conservative therapy but the pain is still there. He knows I want to play tennis again and be able to play the Olympics, so we agreed that surgery should be done as soon as possible.”

Del Potro says he’ll keep working to overcome the obstacles he faces and get back on the court. The Argentine has already undergone three surgeries on the knee—one in June of 2019, another in January 2020 and the third in August of 2020. He previously underwent four other surgeries in his careerthe first on his right wrist in 2010, the second, third and fourth on his left wrist between 2014 and 2015.

The former World No.3 has missed nine or more months of time four times in his career.

The 2009 US Open champion, 32, currently holds a ranking of 173

“Of course, these last few weeks weren’t easy for me. Everything’s so hard since my father’s passing. But also, I feel the strength he sends me from above. I had this day in which I woke up and called the doctor. I knew I had to try again. I hope I can overcome this painful situation. I won’t stop trying. Of course, your messages and best wishes are always welcomed. Thanks for the love.”
