Since reaching the Wimbledon third round as a qualifier, Osorio Serrano had struggled to put wins together. The 19-year-old Colombian failed to survive the opening round in five of her last six tournaments.

None of that mattered much to Osorio Serrano who went toe-to-toe with Svitolina in some riveting baseline exchanges and played some beautiful backhand drop shots.

Svitolina rallied from 4-5 down winning five games in a row to take the opening set and build a 2-0 lead in the second set.

Osorio Serrano answered with a five-game surge of her own eventually snatching the second set to force a decider.

The Colombian baseliner broke to open the final set. Svitolina broke back and leveled at 2-all before Osorio Serrano found a higher gear firing through the final four games for her first round of 16 since she reached the Belgrade semifinals last May.

Osorio Serrano will play world No. 64 Mayar Sherif for a quarterfinal spot.

Earlier, Anna Karolina Schmiedlova defeated qualifier Jaqueline Cristian 6-2, 7-5. American Ann Li beat Varvara Gracheva 6-4, 6-2. Li will play either Donna Vekic or Irina-Camelia Begu for a semifinal spot.
