Zheng Saisai and Irina-Camelia Begu showed the drive to go the distance amid tense Tenerife tests today.

Though Zheng entered the match with just seven singles wins to her credit, six of those victories were in three sets where she's relied on her quickness, fitness and experience to pull out tight matches.

Down a break at 2-3 in the final set today, Zheng played cleaner tennis charging through four of the final five games to post a two hour, 48-minute triumph.

Next up for Zheng is a quarterfinal clash vs. World No. 63 Maria Camila Osorio Serrano.

The 19-year-old Colombian backed up her upset of top-seeded Elina Svitolina yesterday by defeating Mayar Sherif 6-4, 6-2, today.

In an epic afternoon battle, Begu out-dueled Donna Vekic 4-6, 6-2, 7-6(4) in a marathon match that spanned nearly three hours.

The 56th-ranked Begu converted seven of 16 break points in a draining two hour, 49-minute triumph.

Camila Giorgi neded just 69 minutes to crush Danka Kovinic 6-1, 6-2.

The fourth-seeded Giorgi won 15 of 18 first-serve points and permitted just 12 points on serve improving to 23-16 in 2021.

Montreal champion Giorgi will play Arantxa Rus for a semifinal spot.
