It was another blink-and-you-missed-it affair, and such has been the norm for Iga Swiatek in 2022. The Pole ripped past compatriot Magdalana Frech, 6-1, 6-2, to book her place in the second round in Warsaw, setting a Thursday clash with Romanian qualifier Gabriela Lee.

Swiatek stretches her clay-court winning streak to 17 victories, and improves to 47-4 on the season.

"For sure playing in your hometown with all that crowd is pretty extraordinary," Swiatek said, according to WTATennis.com. "I didn't get a chance to play many tournaments in Poland so for sure I needed extra focus and determination to come here and stay in the zone and not let my head think about other stuff."

Swiatek is the fifth player this century to win 17 or more matches in succession on clay. She has not lost on the surface since she fell to Maria Sakkari at Roland-Garros in 2021.
