Andy Murray’s grass season is picking up steam in Stuttgart. The Scot, who is paired up with his former coach and talisman Ivan Lendl once again, is into the quarterfinals at the Boss Open, where he will face Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas next.

Murray, who improved to 112-23 lifetime on grass with his 6-3, 7-6(4) victory over Alexander Bublik on Thursday, is making his debut in Stuttgart.

After skipping most of the clay-court season while training with Lendl in various locations, Murray reached the semifinals of the Surbiton Challenger last week in Great Britian before falling to Denis Kudla in three sets.

The former World No.1 and three-time Grand Slam champion finally cracked the Top-100 earlier in the season for the first time since 2018. Murray is now up to 59 in the ATP’s live rankings - the 35-year-old is 14-8 at ATP level in 2022, but just 1-5 vs. the Top-20.

He’ll get a chance to remedy his poor performance against top players when he takes on Tsitsipas on Friday. Murray lost the pair’s only prior meeting at the 2021 US Open in five sets in the first round, 2-6, 7-6(7), 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Tsitsipas handled Swiss qualifier Dominic Stricker on Thursday, the top seed opening his grass season with a 6-3, 6-4 win.
