Carlos Alcaraz's dream season is done.

The world No. 1 announced he will be sidelined for at least six weeks after tearing his left abdominal muscle in yesterday's Rolex Paris Masters quarterfinal loss to Holger Rune.

More: Alcaraz Retires in Paris

The injury knocks Alcaraz out of both the ATP Finals in Turin and the Davis Cup Finals in Spain.

"After my withdrawal yesterday and having been evaluated by my medical team, @drlopezmartinez and @JuanjoMoreno_M , unfortunately this is the result of my injury: an internal oblique muscle tear in the left abdominal wall with an estimated recovery time of six weeks," Alcaraz posted on Twitter today. "Unfortunately I won't make the ATP Finals or the Davis Cup Finals.

"It is tough and painful for me to miss these two events, which are so important to me, but all I can do is be positive and focus on my recovery. Thank you for the support!"

The US Open champion's departure means Indian Wells champion Taylor Fritz now qualifies for the ATP Finals in Turin.

It also opens the door for 22-time Grand Slam king Rafael Nadal, who has never won the year-end championship, to surpass his 19-year-old compatriot and reclaim the year-end world No. 1 ranking.

Alcaraz could have clinched the year-end top spot by winning his third Masters title of the year in Paris.

Now, the US Open champion will rest and recover in preparation for the Australian Open in January. Alcaraz concludes a phenomenal season with a 57-13 record and five tournament titles, including his maiden major in Flushing Meadows and Masters 1000 championships in Miami and Madrid.
