(April 20, 2011)  At the Grand Prix de SAR La Princesse Lalla Meryem, Nadia Lalami, the Moroccan underdog, upended the No. 1 seeded Aravane Rezai, 2-6, 7-6(5), 6-4. Lalami, the 20-year old Moroccan native, has only won a single WTA win and only played in 4 career WTA matches (all of them first-round losses at this same tournament) but has not made it to the quarterfinals of the tournament.

She let the first set fall, but got even with a second-set tie break win and won out in the third. She is currently ranked No. 497, though will no doubt receive a significant jump in the rankings following this event.

She goes on to play Kirsten Flipkens in the quarters.

In other news at the tournament, Melanie Oudin was able to come out of a 4-game losing streak with a win over the No. 3 seed, Lourdes Dominguez Lino, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2. Also, Greta Arn and Simona Halep will move on to the quarterfinals.

Tomorrow will see an exciting matchup between Alize Cornet and Dinara Safina.
