Roger Federer failed to come out of the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters final with a victory for the fourth time in four tries on Sunday, falling to a storming Stan Wawrinka, 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-2, but the disappointment isn't stopping Federer from being thrilled for his longtime doubles partner and Davis Cup teammate.

Wawrinka Defeats Federer for Monte-Carlo Crown

“It was won of those finals that I could have won,” said Federer, “but Stan was tougher at the end and I think deserved it just a little bit more.”

“Of course I'm very happy for Stan,” Federer added. “It's a huge win for him after winning his first Grand Slam this year, also to win his first Masters 1000. To take the opportunities when they're there, that's key in a tennis player's career so I'm very happy for him.”

With the victory Wawrinka maintains his edge over Federer for the No. 1 Swiss ranking. Federer will come in at No. 4 in the world after reaching his fourth career final in Monte-Carlo and 36th Masters 1000 final.
