69 years young won first set 6-0

Posted by Roy Coopersmith on Sunday, April 10, 2016

Have you ever heard of Gail Falkenberg? Probably not, but after today, the 69-year-old right-hander is getting lots of attention on social media after this video of her was posted on Facebook (see above). Falkenberg actually won a round of qualifying at the Pelham ITF event in Pelham, Alabama (6-0, 6-1, no less!), and she will square off against Taylor Townsend on Monday. The American, a former World No. 94 is working to get back to the top 100.

Falkenberg, meanwhile, seems to be up for anything. Does she have a chance against the powerful Townsend? Probably not. But we think she deserves a standing ovation for winning a round at Pelham.
