But have no fear, the 38-year-old former World No. 2 is planning to make a comeback to the tour after a lengthy rehab, which should take six months.

Haas told ATPWorldTour.com that he injured the foot in Shanghai last year and it continued to bother him during his last tour event in Vienna. He tried resting the injury, but elected to undergo surgery when the pain interfered with his day-to-day affairs.

Thanks guys, all went well. Feeling a bit drowsy still so going back to sleep a little. Danke an alle 👍

“I knew that even if I wasn't playing professional tennis anymore, I would probably have to get (the surgery) done,” Haas said.

He added: “I know that there's a chance that I might not come back from this.  I know it will be a very, very hard task, but there's no doubt in my mind I'm certainly going to try.”
