Serbia to Host Britain on Clay in DC Quarterfinals

The world's top two players could collide in Belgrade in the Davis Cup quarterfinals in July.

Serbia will host defending Davis Cup champion Great Britain on red clay at the 6,100-seat Tasmajdan Stadium in Belgrade in the Davis Cup quarterfinals, July 15-17th.

"Now we know the surface and venue our preparations for the Serbia tie can go to the next level," British captain Leon Smith said. “It is going to be an exciting contest in Belgrade and we can’t wait to get back together as a team and continue our defense of the title.”

World No. 1 Novak Djokovic and British No. 1 Andy Murray could meet in the quarterfinals.

The showdown will only be the second time the two nations have met in the team competition. A teenage duo of Djokovic and Murray both played in the last meeting between the nations at Glasgow’s Braehead Arena in 2006, with Djokovic winning both his singles rubbers to help secure a 3-2 win for Serbia.

Djokovic scored two singles wins and Viktor Troicki won the decisive singles match as Serbia rallied from a final-day deficit edging visiting Kazakhstan, 3-2, in its World Group opener on Belgrade's hard court last month.

Andy Murray accounted for all three wins, collecting a couple of singles wins and partnering brother Jamie Murray to a doubles victory, leading Great Britain past visiting Japan, 3-1, in its 2016 opener.
