Second Serve - A Tennis Now Blog

Second Serve

Andy Murray was in a spot of trouble late in the second set during his 6-1, 6-4 win over Kei Nishikori on Saturday at the Olympic Games in Rio. Japan's No. 1 had saved two match points and was close to earning a break point to draw level. If Nishikori had won this point, there's no telling what might have happened in the second set. Not to worry. Murray pulled out all his counterpunching brilliance and threaded the needle in style to win this point over Nishikori. After spending a triumphant moment on the seat of his pants he got up and finished off the match.

Murray has won 17 matches in a row, and 11 matches consecutively in Olympic singles. He'll bid for Gold on Sunday against either Rafael Nadal or Juan Martin del Potro.
