The 13-time Grand Slam champion joined 2009 US Open champion Juan Martin del Potro and Hall of Famers Rod Laver and John McEnroe at a press conference in Manhattan promoting next month's Laver Cup.

The Wimbledon champion, who missed Laver Cup last year due to an elbow injury, said he's excited to partner Federer in doubles for Team Europe.

“I am looking forward to it if it comes to that,” Djokovic said. “I am looking forward to spending time with him and all the other players.

“Life on the tour is different and you don’t get to mix up so much with your biggest rivals for obvious reasons. Laver Cup is a competition which unites us all and it is very unusual to see that but also very nice that all the players were there backing and supporting the player which as performing on the court."

A year ago, Rafael Nadal and Federer partnered in a Laver Cup doubles over Jack Sock and Sam Querrey.

Next month, Federer, Djokovic, Alexander Zverev, Grigor Dimitrov, David Goffin and Kyle Edmund lead Team Europe against a Team World squad comprised of Juan Martin del Potro, Kevin Anderson, Nick Kyrgios, Diego Schwartzman and Jack Sock.

Djokovic said he watched the inaugural Laver Cup at Prague's O2 Arena on TV last year and was impressed with what he saw.

“I did not compete last year because of my elbow injury,” Djokovic added. “It kept me away from the tour but the Laver Cup looked really good from the TV."

The Laver Cup will be contested September 21-23rd at the United Center in Chicago.
