Federer Recharged Ahead of Return

The Grand Slam king returns to the Queen City recharged and ready for launch.

Seven-time Cincinnati champion Roger Federer returns to the Western & Southern Open for the first time since 2015 when he faces Peter Gojowczyk tonight.

Wawrinka: Trust Key To Comeback

It is Federer's first match since falling in five sets to Kevin Anderson at Wimbledon last month and his first match since he celebrated his 37th birthday on August 8th.

Federer said he's eager to test his training on the match court tonight.

"I've trained hard, I'm anxious," Federer told the media in Cincinnati. "I chose to skip Toronto for the health of my body. I don't want to be hurt. There is too much to play."

For Federer, that includes a run pursuing his sixth US Open title and first in a decade as well as launching defense of the Laver Cup in Chicago next month.

"Watching from afar is tough," Federer said. "But that's part of growing older. You've got to take care of the body. It's nice to be back. I hope to have a good tournament."
