Pliskova on Key to Making Marriage Work

Karolina Pliskova's wedding to fiance Michal Hrdlicka was a love feast the size of a "family lunch."

The ninth-seeded newlywed discussed her July wedding and keys to making marriage work following her 6-4, 6-4, sweep of compatriot Katerina Siniakova at the Rogers Cup in Montreal.

The couple, who had been together three years, opted for an intimate wedding ceremony before family and close friends in Monaco.

"We had it in Monaco, so you had to plan few things, the dress and everything," Pliskova said. "For me, I just didn't want to talk about it. I had tournaments, different schedules. That's why for you guys it was a surprise."

Pliskova said it was a small and special wedding ceremony.

"It was something I was looking forward to happen," Pliskova said. "But for sure not having any influence on my Wimbledon tournament or on the tournament before.

"It was very small wedding. There was not many people, not many things what we had to plan or what we have to do. It was more like I would call it a family lunch. I had just my really close friends. We just enjoyed. It was not stressful at all."

The 2016 US Open finalist said working together is a key to making marriage work.

Hrdlicka is a former TV presenter with TV Nova and often accompanies Pliskova to various tournaments throughout the year.

Though the couple are now officially husband and wife, they don't refer to each other by those titles.

"I think my personal life is important for me, also for my career," Pliskova said. "Now my husband, I don't call him husband, I call him Michal, he's been working for me in some ways in lot of things, so everything I think is working pretty well with us.

"It's been almost three years, so it's nothing new. Yeah, just the wedding, it was the next step for us. "
