Coco Gauff: Two Changes for US Open

Coco Gauff aims to make two key adjustments ahead of her US Open debut this month.

The 15-year-old American played through qualifying to reach her third WTA-level main draw in Washington, D.C. where she fell to Zarina Diyas, 6-4 6-2.

Osaka: Put Joy Back Into Tennis

Gauff, who will reportedly receive a US Open main-draw wild card, says she will try to be more assertive and trust herself more on court when she makes her Flushing Meadows debut.

"I think going forward to the US Open, I'm just going to work on being more aggressive, pressing myself a little bit more," Gauff told the media in Washington, D.C. "I think I second guess myself too much on the court. That also comes with playing more matches, too. I think I'm going to try to get some practice matches in before US Open.

"Honestly, we'll see what happens from there."

Awarded a wild card into Wimbledon qualifying, Gauff reached her first Grand Slam main draw where she knocked off five-time champion Venus Williams en route to the fourth round of The Championships. Gauff bowed to eventual-champion Simona Halep at Wimbledon.

The strong support she's received from fans since her inspired SW19 run has surprised the teenager.

"Honestly, I knew that I would get a little more support, but I didn't think it would be as much," Gauff said of the packed Washington, D.C. crowd. "After Wimbledon, a couple weeks have gone by, I thought it settled down a little bit. People were excited, but I guess people are still excited. I'm happy for that.

"I'm happy I'm given this opportunity to play in front of a big crowd, play in my home country. I hope at the US Open I can make a good result there, meet a lot of the new supporters that I have, too."
