The final starters will be announced at the draw on Thursday March 3rd.

"I’m delighted to name the five players for this first round match. Japan have a very strong team, progressed well in recent years and with Kei Nishikori have an established Top 10 player," said British captain Leon Smith. "It will be a test for us but I’m confident in our team and I’m sure when the guys pull on their GB shirt they will give their all. We are lucky to have another home tie and it’s exciting to be returning to Birmingham. Our fans give us incredible support and we look forward to more of the same.

Last November, Andy Murray swept David Goffin to cllinch Great Britain's first Davis Cup doubles championship in 79 years. Murray carried the team throughout the 2015 season.

It is expected to be Andy Murray's first match since he fell to Novak Djokovic in the Australian Open final. Murray took February off to be home with wife Kim, after the birth of the couple's first child, daughter Sophia Olivia.

"Andy Murray has once again demonstrated his commitment to the team and his country in making himself available to play, especially so soon after becoming a father," Smith said. "His outstanding performance at the Australian Open is further evidence that he is one of the world’s best players."

The winner of the Great Britain-Japan tie will face either Serbia or Kazakhstan in the July 15-17th Davis Cup quarterfinals.
