Second Serve

It isn’t every day that we’re posting simple practice videos, but we feel that the occasion of Juan Martin del Potro’s return to competitive tennis after three surgeries to his left wrist warrants a special celebration.

The Tower of Tandil will play the night session on Tuesday at the Delray Beach Open, and all eyes will be on his repaired left wrist to see how it holds up. From the video below it looks like Del Potro is hitting his two-handed backhand freely and with no pain.

Over time we’ll all find out if the 2009 U.S. Open champion will be able to hit the shot with the potency that he used to possess, and whether or not doing so will create more injury problems for him. For now, expectations are high that Del Potro has taken the time necessary to fully heal his injuries. Fans have a difficult time recalling, but there was a time when Del Potro remained injury-free. If he can do that again, and start to rebuild his match fitness and confidence throughout the season, we could be in for a very interesting year.

Fingers crossed, and vamos Delpo.
