China’s No.1-ranked player is without a coach for the time being. World No.18 Wang Qiang and coach Peter McNamara have announce their split, effective immediately.

McNamara began working with Wang in the spring of 2015 and the now 27-year-old has come a long way since then, especially in 2018 when she rocketed up the rankings and cracked several milestones along the way.

Wang recorded 37 match wins in 2018, including four against Top 10 players, and won two titles. Wang reeled off 14 consecutive wins on home soil last season, and became the first Chinese woman to reach back-to-back semifinals at Wuhan and Beijing.

McNamara, a former ATP World No.14, formerly coached Grigor Dimitrov and Matthew Ebden before he paired with Wang.

"I would like to show gratitude towards Qiang Wang, and her entire team around her, for these exciting and joyful four years together that created an amazing journey,” Wang said in a statement, according to WTA Insider. “Qiang has taught me patience and understanding, at the same time as I have lived a dream that she made possible. I would like to thank her for all and wish her all the best in the future."

No word yet on Wang’s next coach.
