Marcela Zacarias Reinstated

Marcela Zacarias hasn't played a match since last summer, but she scored a major win today.

The 24-year-old Mexican has been reinstated to the pro circuit following a provisional suspension for a failed drug test.

Federer: Majors Main Motivation

The former world No. 181 bears "no fault" for a steroid detected in her system last June, the International Tennis Federation announced today.

Last June 21st, Zacarias submitted a urine sample following a Fed Cup match in Mexico that was found to contain epitrenbolone, a metabolite of trenbolone. Trenbolone is an anabolic steroid prohibited under tennis' anti-doping policy.

Zacarias admitted her violation. Her account of how "the trenbolone entered her system was accepted and it was determined that she bears no fault or negligence for the violation," the ITF announced without specifically stating how the substance entered her system.

As a result of the ruling, Zacarias' provisional suspension, which began on August 13th, is lifted and she's eligible to return to competition immediately.

"This is Ms. Zacarias’ first anti-doping rule violation," the ITF said in a statement. "The decision determines that: (1) Ms. Zacarias has committed a violation of the programme; (2) there is no period of ineligibility; and (3) Ms. Zacarias is eligible to compete with immediate effect."

Currently ranked No. 485, Zacarias has won 11 singles titles on the ITF pro circuit.
