Sakkari Slams "Worst" Line-Calling

Line-calling hit an all-time low for Maria Sakkari this week.

Sakkari slammed "terrible" line-calling officials in the aftermath of her 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, Fed Cup loss to British No. 1 Johanna Konta at Bath University.

The Greek No. 1 pulled no punches blasting line-calling as "the worst I have ever seen in my life."

"They are terrible," Sakkari said afterward. "Since the first round. They're the worst I've ever seen in my life.

"This is unacceptable. Because we have many players in the top 100, we are playing with poor balls, 9 and 11 change, and with line umpires that have never worked in their life. That's what I want to say. The chair umpires are great, but the line umpires are the worst I have ever seen in my life."

Great Britain swept Greece, 3-0, in the Group I tie. Sakkari said the lines crew made errors against both teams, but suggested Greece received more bad calls than the home side.

"There were mistakes for both sides, I am not saying that they always do mistakes only for us, but of course there are more mistakes for our side," Sakkari said. "But there were quite a lot of mistakes.

"I think it's very tough for all the players to play with very bad line umpires on court. We are used to playing with very good professionals and we come here, it's a very high-level Fed Cup tie, we need to have good professionals on our court."
