Wozniacki, Garcia Withdraw From Doha

Caroline Wozniacki's Doha experience is over before it began.

The former world No. 1 withdrew from the Qatar Tennis Open due to a viral illness.

Wild card Wozniacki pulled out prior to her opener vs. Czech qualifier Karolina Muchova.

"I'm sick," Wozniacki told the media in Doha. "Basically, it's a short story. Just not feeling well. I had a fever. Yeah, just don't feel well. Gonna go back to bed and rest up."

Lucky loser Samantha Stosur, who fell in qualifying yesterday, has replaced the 2018 Australian Open champion in the draw.

The 28-year-old Dane, who revealed her battle with rheumatoid arthritis last year, has played just five matches this season losing to Canadian Bianca Andreescu in Auckland and bowing to Maria Sharapova in the third round of the Australian Open.

French Fed Cup hero Caroline Garcia also pulled out of Doha citing a leg injury.

Garcia, who led France to the Fed Cup semifinals last weekend, was replaced by lucky loser Lara Arruabarrena.

"I played FC this weekend and I arrived this morning very early," Garcia told the media in Doha. "When I warm up, I feel pain in my left quad—I was not feeling comfortable with it and it was getting worse through the practice. I had to play in one hour and it was too short to make any recovery."
