Off the court since last August due to a back injury, and winless since Wimbledon 2023, Bianca Andreescu is targeting a return at Indian Wells in 2024.

The 2019 Indian Wells and US Open champion was at the NHL All-Star game in Toronto on Saturday and told TSN’s Mark Masters that she is feeling better, but not quite at 100 percent.

"It's getting there. It's not 100%, but I'm really hoping that I can play Indian Wells," Andreescu told TSN's Mark Masters. "It's not guaranteed, but I'm taking it day by day, and I'm really hoping I can get back on court soon.”

Asked what the biggest challenge has been in her recovery, Andreescu said: “I feel like I have dealt with so much that I know how exactly to handle myself. A lot of visualization work, meditation, to try to speed up the recovery. Obviously, with something like this, you can't really speed anything up, other than rest, so that's what I've been doing. I've been doing stuff outside of the court, a lot of stuff in the gym, rehab, seeing my physio."

Andreescu said she was tuned into the Australian Open, even if it isn’t always easy being forced to be a spectator.

"It's not fun watching other players play and you can't play that specific tournament,” she said, before adding that she was impressed by Aryna Sabalenka and Jannik Sinner.

"A lot of the matches were crazy,” she said. “On the girls’ side I wasn't surprised by Sabalenka, but on the guys’ side, Sinner ... he's amazing but I didn't think it would come so soon. He's had amazing results – I'm definitely happy for him."
