Maria Sharapova may have lost out on her bid to win a sixth career Grand Slam title on Saturday night in Melbourne, but the wonderful and well-liked Russian added to her ever growing stable of admirers when she delivered the perfect runner-up speech at the award podium after the match.

“First of all, I have to congratulate Serena on making history,” Sharapova says. “It’s really an honor playing against her. I haven’t beaten her in a really long time, but I love every time that I stop on the court to play against her because she’s been the best, and as a tennis player you want to play against the best, so congratulations on an incredible achievement.”
