Bianca Andreescu has turned the impossible dream into an improbable reality.
One round after she shocked reigning Australian Open champion Caroline Wozniacki, the Canadian teenage qualifier roared back from a set and a break down reeling off 11 consecutive games defeating Venus Williams, 6-7 (1), 6-1, 6-3, to advance to the Auckland semifinals.
Bouchard: Attitude was F***ed Up
The 152nd-ranked Andreescu scored her sixth straight win, including three qualifying matches that propelled her into the main draw.
An amazing Auckland adventure is empowering for the 18-year-old baseliner, who smacked 39 winners downsizing a second Grand Slam champion in succession.
"My goal was only to qualify and maybe get a couple of rounds in but now I've beaten a couple of top players," Andreescu said. "I believe that anything is possible and I think I did the impossible (beating Venus). It is such an amazing feeling."
Andreescu will try to sustain her roll against Su-Wei Hsieh, who stopped Spain's Sara Sorribes Tormo, 6-3, 6-2, for her third straight-sets win of the tournament.
