Second Serve

Stefanos Tsitsipas says he benefited greatly from facing Roger Federer at Hopman Cup. The experience helped him get a read on the patterns that the Swiss maestro plays and served to give him an idea of how he may defeat him in the future. That future happened in the round of 16 when the Greek took out Federer in four hotly contested sets.

Next up, Rafael Nadal.

The 20-year-old will face Nadal in the semifinals on Thursday. He says his two defeats at the hands of the great Spaniard in 2018 will most certainly help him when he faced Nadal for the third time.

“Nadal, I played him once, once on clay, once hard court,” Tsitsipas told reporters. “I felt very close of beating him in Toronto, though the score was 6-2, 7-6. I remember coming back to the locker room and promising to myself I'm going to do much better against him next time. It felt like I understood a bit better what he was doing on the court after that match, and especially on hard court.”

The Greek sensation has proven to be a fast learner in all facets of tour life. He has reached the semifinals of a major in just his seventh career Grand Slam appearance, and become the youngest ATP Grand Slam semifinalist since 2007.

He is the ATP's youngest Aussie Open semifinalist since 2003.

“On clay, it was a different story,” Tsitsipas said of Nadal. “I felt like I had no chance after losing in Barcelona 6-1, 6-2. I felt like he's on completely another level on clay than on hard.”

He added: “It's going to be interesting. I feel all right with my game. I feel like I can do something good against him.”
