January 28, 2019: Mark the date. It will forever be the day that Naomi Osaka began her run at the top of the rankings, and officially became the first Asian player to ever hold the No.1 ranking.

Osaka, who became a two-time major champion on Saturday in Melbourne, rises from No.4 to No.1, while Petra Kvitova rises from No.6 to No.2.

Aryna Sabalenka hits a career-high ranking and makes her Top 10 debut at No.10, while Kiki Bertens reaches a career-high ranking at No.8, Ash Barty rises to No.14. Other career-high rankings go to China’s Wang Qiang, who rises to 18, American Danielle Collins, who is up to 23.

Teenagers also made big noise in this week’s rankings as 18-year-old Dayana Yastremska makes her Top 10 debut at 47, while 17-year-old Amanda Anisimova rises to No.62 and 18-year-old Bianca Andreescu rises to 68. Yastremska, Anisimova and Andreescu are not the three highest teenagers in the WTA rankings.
