2016 Roland Garros Champion Garbiñe Muguruza has pulled out of the Rogers Cup in Montreal, citing a gastrointestinal illness. Muguruza was replaced by American lucky loser Varvara Lepchenko in the draw.

The Spaniard has won just one match and lost two since claiming her first major title by defeating Serena Williams in the French Open final in early June.

The 22-year-old Spaniard is slated to play the Rio Olympics, which begin on August 6, next.
