Portuguese No. 1 João Sousa is playing in Bastad this week, but his heart is back home in Portugal.

Sousa watched Portugal, playing most of the game without star Cristiano Ronaldo, who was carried off on a stretcher, defeat heavily-favored France, 1-0, to capture its first European Championship.

"We are very proud that our team made the big effort to win," Sousa tells the Swedish Open Bastad in the video above. "I think we deserve it so we are really, really happy.

"We believed in our talent. We believed our players would give everything to win during all the tournament. We played a great match and we took our chance. All the country is very happy with this victory."

The second-seeded Sousa has a first-round bye in Bastad and will play a Swedish wild card in the second round.
