Andy Murray, tennis player. Andy Murray, big football fan.

Those two worlds collided on Saturday at Wimbledon as the two-time Wimbledon champion met with media ahead of his first-round meeting with France’s Benoit Paire.

During the interview, loud cheers could be heard around the grounds as France built and then expanded its lead against Argentina to 4-2 in World Cup round of 16 action. We were sitting in the media room, watching this interview on intercom, and could hear similar explosions coming from the player’s lounge. Finally, Murray gave up and made reference to the game, hinting that maybe they’d all be better off just going to watch the contest.

Here’s the snippet of the transcript. Murray trails off from talking about the difficulties of facing Paire to talking about the game in a heartbeat:

(Cheering noise in background.) I can't believe I'm missing this match. It's like 4-2 or something.

Q. It's 3-2 France.

ANDY MURRAY: Should we just go?

France got the 4-3 win. Murray will face Paire on Tuesday at Wimbledon
