Nadal Undecided on Cincinnati

Rafael Nadal returns to action in Montreal next week.

The Rogers Cup may be Nadal's only hard-court preparation for next month's US Open.

Meeting with the media in Mallorca, Nadal said he is undecided about playing Cincinnati next month. The Roland Garros champion will make a decision about Cincinnati after Montreal.

"Depending on what happens in Montreal, I’ll take a decision on Cincinnati," Nadal said. "Cincinnati is still an option. I have one thing very clear though and it is that I want to arrive well prepared and ready for the US Open, the last major of the season."

A year ago, Nadal stopped Stefanos Tsitsipas, 6-2, 7-6 (4), to capture his fourth Rogers Cup crown and 33rd Masters championship in Toronto. It was Nadal's 80th career title.

The Spaniard became the fourth player in ATP history to earn 80 or more titles with the win, joining Jimmy Connors (109), Roger Federer and Ivan Lendl.

Both world No. 1 Novak Djokovic and 20-time Grand Slam king Federer are skipping the Rogers Cup; both plan to return in Cincinnati.

Nadal said he's fully fit for his first hard-court tournament since Indian Wells in March where he reached the semifinals before conceding a walkover to Federer.

"I think that I'm in good shape this year," Nadal said. "I'm strong."
