Nick Kyrgios put on quite the show on Tuesday at the Citi Open, wowing the crowd with trick shots, tomfoolery and good, old-fashioned bomb serving.
Kyrgios used the “unnecessary tweener” to great effect on this point, luring his opponent Thai-Son Kwiatkowski in before crunching a backhand winner.
Kwiatkowski put up a strong fight but in the end Kyrgios had too much firepower and earned the hard-fought 7-5 6-4 victory.
Kyrgios won 36 of 41 first-serve points and saved two of three break points in the 92-minute contest to set up a second-round tilt with Gilles Simon.
