WTT Recap: Lasers and Aviators Clinch Playoff Spots

WTT Results, Tuesday July 30

Philadelphia Freedoms def. NEW YORK EMPIRE 25-15 (EP)
SPRINGFIELD LASERS def. Orange County Breakers 22-16
VEGAS ROLLERS def. Orlando Storm 22-18
SAN DIEGO AVIATORS def. Washington Kastles 25-7

Two more teams clinched World Team Tennis playoff berths on Tuesday, as the Springfield Lasers and San Diego Aviators booked their ticket to Vegas and Friday’s playoffs.

The Aviators crushed the Washington Kastles, 25-7, while the Lasers took care of the Orange County Breakers 22-16.

That means that one playoff spot is left up for grabs, with just Wednesday’s last day of regular season action to decide it.

In the logjam for the fourth seed are the Vegas Rollers, New York Empire and Orange County Breakers.

Here are the scenarios, from World Team Tennis:

The Empire clinch a playoff spot with a win, or an Orange County loss. They hold the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Rollers after splitting the regular-season series, and holding the edge in games, 44-40. The Breakers need help and would get in with a victory and losses by New York and Vegas.

The Rollers need the most help. They need to win, they need Orange County to win, and they need the Empire to lose. A three-way deadlock in the standings turns the decision over to which team won the most games. Heading into Wednesday, Vegas leads with 253, Orange County has 246, and New York checks in with 244.
