15-year-old Coco Gauff has made history at Wimbledon by becoming the youngest qualifier in the tournament’s Open Era history, and the youngest player to reach the main draw at the All England Club since 1995.

Gauff, who only learned she had received a wild card to Wimbledon qualifying eight days ago, has since jetted out to England and won three consecutive matches, including a first-round win over top-seeded Aliona Bolsova and today’s 6-1 6-1 win over Belgium’s Greet Minnen, which sealed her spot in the main draw.

“It means a lot,” Gauff said on court after the match. “It means if you keep working hard, your dreams will come true.”

Gauff was a quarter-finalist in the Girls’ Singles event at Wimbledon last season.

This year the American won her first tour-level victory at Miami where she defeated Caty McNally. At Roland Garros Gauff became the youngest player to win a match of any kind at a major since 1995 when she won her first-round qualifying match.

Gauff had already become the youngest player to defeat a Top 100 at a major since 1995 with her win over Bolsova, but her completion of qualifying makes her the youngest player to play main draw at Wimbledon since Martina Hingis in ’95.

“I’m still in shock, I can’t believe I’m playing main draw of Wimbledon,” she said. “I served well and I was pretty positive the whole match, and I think I was just in the zone today.”

Gauff will find out who her first-round opponent is tomorrow, when the main draw his held and all 16 of the women’s singles qualifiers are placed into the 128-player field.
