Anisimova: Bring on Grass

The baseline aggression Amanda Anisimova showed shocking defending champion Simona Halep in the Roland Garros quarterfinals was blunted by Ashleigh Barty and a blustery wind in the semifinals.

The eighth-seeded Barty battled back from a one-set, 0-3 deficit winning 12 of the final 15 games to reach her first major final in Paris.

The 17-year-old Anisimova, who backed up her Australian Open fourth-round run with this fairy-tale trip to the French Open final four, said she's learned a lot in the process.

"I'm really happy that I finished the last clay tournament like this, because, I mean, the clay season has been up and down," Anisimova said. "So it's just amazing to do so well in a clay Grand Slam. I'm just really happy about these couple of weeks. I'm really excited about the grass season. I gained a lot of confidence in the past couple of weeks."

The 51st-ranked American will crack the Top 30 for the first time: Anisimova is projected to rise to a career-high No. 26.

Now Anisimova, who says her lawn tennis experience is limited to a 13-11 in the third set loss at junior Wimbledon is eager to hit the grass despite some past misgivings.

"Everyone tells me my game suits grass well, but that time I didn't leave thinking that," Anisimova said.  "Hopefully, with a little bit more practice and getting used to it, then maybe I can do well. We'll see how this year goes."
