"I'm not from Prague," Vondrousova said. "I'm, like, two hours from Prague. So I left my family there and go to Prague alone, and I'm still there practicing. So I don't know. I think it changed my life, but it was good."

3. As for tennis idols, Vondrousova said she modeled her game on "no one," but grew up watching fellow Czech left-hander Petra Kvitova and Roger Federer.

"I was just watching Petra when she won Wimbledon, and I love Roger, but I don't have idol," Vondrousova said.

4. Growing up, Vondrousova was a talented soccer player, but chose tennis over soccer because she prefers individual sport.

5. Last month, Vondrousova reached her third career final on the clay of Istanbul bowing to Petra Martic, 1-6, 6-4, 6-1. She will face the 31st-seeded Martic for a spot in the Roland Garros semifinals. Martic backed up her upset of second-seeded Karolina Pliskova, knocking off Kaia Kanepi, 5-7, 6-2, 6-4, to reach her first major quarterfinal. Martic topped Vondrousova, 6-4, 7-5, in the Australian Open second round in January.

6. Vondrousova stopped 2017 Roland Garros champion Jelena Ostapenko then surprised former world No. 1 Simona Halep for her first Top 5 win en route to the Indian Wells quarterfinals in March.

Halep said the left-hander's spin made her uncomfortable. "Because she's lefty is a little bit difficult," Halep said. "We don't get to play that much with lefties. The ball was coming opposite spin and was tough to get the rhythm."

7. Roland Garros is Vondrousova's sixth straight quarterfinal; since February she has reached at least the quarterfinals of every tournament she's played.

8. Prior to Paris, Vondrousova's best Grand Slam singles result was a US Open fourth-round appearance last summer.

9. Known for her soft hands, skill shifting spins and a lethal drop shot, Vondrousova partnered compatriot Barbora Strycova to reach the Australian Open doubles semifinals in January.

10. Vondrousova took up tennis at age 4 hitting with her dad.
