Second Serve

Roger Federer is seeded higher than Rafael Nadal at Wimbledon, but it doesn’t matter too much because they’ve been drawn into the same half of the draw at Wimbledon.

Eight-time Wimbledon champion Federer and two-time champion Nadal could meet in the semis, but both will need to avoid a few potential minefields to get there.

See the full draw below:

Nadal’s early round matches could be particularly perilous. He could face Nick Kyrgios in the second round, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the third round and Marin Cilic in the round of 16. Kyrgios made a name for himself in 2014 when he stunned Nadal in the round of 16 at Wimbledon; the Aussie, who is 3-3 lifetime against Nadal, would have to get past talented Jordan Thompson to reach the second round.

Tsonga showed good form in Halle, where he pushed Federer to the three sets in the round of 16. The Frenchman owns four career victories over Nadal, including one in their only grass meeting, which came in 2011.

Cilic, a runner-up at Wimbledon in 2017, is 2-6 against Nadal lifetime. The Croatian is 28-11 lifetime at Wimbledon and has been to the quarter-finals or better in four of the last five seasons.

Here is Nadal’s projected path at Wimbledon:

Federer will open with a first-round tussle with Lloyd Harris of South Africa. He could face France’s Lucas Pouille in the third round and potentially Borna Coric or Matteo Berrettini in the round of 16. His potential quarter-final opponent would be Kei Nishikori if the seeds held.

Defending champion Novak Djokovic will face Philipp Kohlschreiber in the first round. Here is the World No.1’s projected path:
