Naomi Osaka’s 16-match Grand Slam winning streak came to a crashing halt today on Court Suzanne Lenglen as the World No.1 fell to Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic 6-2 6-4.

Plagued by nerves and producing spotty form from the onset, Osaka never managed to find the consistency that would allow her to produce another three-set triumph. She struck 38 unforced errors in the one hour and 17-minute affair and was outplayed by Siniakova, who won all nine of her service games and saved all seven break points she faced in the opening set.

Siniakova reaches the round of 16 at a major for the first time and records her first victory in three tries against a reigning World No.1.

The Czech won the doubles title here in Paris last year with compatriot Barbora Krejcikova. She will face either Madison Keys or Anna Blinkova in the round of 16.

Osaka had won seven consecutive deciding sets at Grand Slams, including two in Paris earlier in the week.
