Toni Nadal: Wimbledon Seeding "A Bit Ugly"

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Toni Nadal, Rafael Nadal's uncle and first coach, calls Wimbledon's decision to seed the second-ranked Spaniard third, behind world No. 3 Roger Federer, "a bit ugly."

Speaking to Spanish publication El Larguero, Toni Nadal offered blunt reaction to the seeding shift.

"It's a well-known topic, the Wimbledon guys are used to differentiating themselves because of this kind of thing, it's a bit ugly, but it's what they've done all their lives," Toni Nadal said. "They're used to going their own way and they act like that because they feel They believe they have the right to do things as they want."

Uncle Toni Nadal blasted the decision as "a lack of respect", but believes Wimbledon's seeding decision is most disrespectful to the ATP rather than his nephew.

"It's a lack of respect, but above all to the ATP circuit," Toni Nadal said. "It's a matter of disrespect to the names, the rules of the ATP are the rules that should govern the professional circuit, if they do not, something goes wrong.

"But I also blame the ATP: if they said they did not play like this, the problem would end. If you do not meet them, they are not in the loop, it would have been over before."

Despite a demanding draw that could see the 12-time Roland Garros champion face Nick Kyrgios, who owns a Wimbledon win over Nadal, former finalist Marin Cilic and second-seeded Federer in the semifinals, Toni Nadal believes his nephew is in good form as he prepares to play his first grass-court match since bowing to reigning champion Djokovic in an epic Wimbledon semifinal last July.

"I think he arrives at a good moment in form, with enough morale: he comes from winning Roland Garros," Toni Nadal said. "It's true that June can be inconvenient, but I think that with two weeks of training he can do it.

"I see him with more possibilities than last year, he arrives full of morals, he arrives with two very important victories in Rome and Roland Garros, but we'll see, everything changes in the sport from one day to the next."
