Covid-19 continues its assault on the bottom half of the men’s singles draw at Wimbledon. In the first four days of the tournament, three high profile seeded players have been forced to withdraw due to Covid. First it was Marin Cilic, 2017 former runner-up who was seeded 14th, then Matteo Berrettini, last year’s runner-up and the No.8 seed, went down.

Today it was 17th-seeded Roberto Bautista Agut, a semifinalist in 2019.

“Sadly today I have notified the organization of Wimbledon of my withdrawal from the competition,” he posted on Instagram. “Yesterday I started not feeling very well and I tested positive for Covid-19. Symptoms are not very serious, but I think this is the best decision. Thank you all for your support always. I hope to be back on court soon.”

Colombia’s Daniel Galan gains safe passage into the third round as a result.
