During Caroline Wozniacki’s rise to fame in the last half decade, one of the most asked questions in her camp, other than “Are you dating anyone?”, revolved around father Piotr, who has gone by the name Victor Krason since 2003.

The former No. 1’s father addressed the questions recently, explaining that the name change was to honor his maternal grandparents, who he believed to be his birth parents until the age of 8.
When he was born, Piotr’s parents were young, poor and decided that his would be a better life if he stayed with his maternal grandparents until his parents could save up enough money.

So as a baby he was taken in by his grandparents, who lived 300 miles away in a different part of Poland. For unknown reasons, his parents did not come to get him until he was 8, never knowing his grandparents weren’t his true parents, and also meeting his sister, who was 6.

Years later, as his true father Tadeusz Wozniacki approached the end of his life, he asked Piotr to honor his maternal grandfather by taking his name.
He did so legally, although the world continues to know him as Piotr Wozniacki.
