Venus: Serena's Loss Shock For All

Venus Williams beat sister Serena Williams in Indian Wells last year and has outlasted the 23-time Grand Slam champion this year.

In the aftermath of her straight-sets win over Christina McHale today, Venus was asked if Serena's retirement vs. Garbine Muguruza yesterday fueled her motivational fire.

The 38-year-old Venus said anytime Serena loses "it's a shock for everybody."

"I think I have watched her win so many times, and those wins just always felt like we were all winning," Venus told the media in Indian Wells. "So when she loses, which isn't often, it's just a really foreign feeling, to be honest, and probably a shock for everybody (smiling).

"I don't think anyone wants to play her. If you can get through it and you've got a win, it's kind of like a career moment."
