Osaka on Emulating Kyrgios Serve

Naomi Osaka owns one of the most imposing serves in tennis.

Now, Osaka is working to make her seismic serve rock harder thanks to another damaging server: Nick Kyrgios.

Former world No. 1 Osaka and Kyrgios, who are friends and Yonex ambassadors, shared the court in LA for a hit earlier this month.

Osaka came away from the experience impressed by the Australian Open doubles champion's platform stance on serve and has been working to emulate Kyrgios' footwork in an effort for more explosiveness.

"I have been working on my serve a lot with Wim, because apparently before I didn't put my two feet together, so he's been telling me to be like very balanced and put my two feet together," Osaka told the media in Miami after her opening-round win over Angelique Kerber. "And I hit with Nick in LA, and I was watching his like form from very close up, and he does like this slide thing and then he puts his two feet together and helps him explode more.

"I have been really focusing on that part of my technique. I think it's working out pretty well, because I think I have a better rhythm now than I did before, especially like with the wind and stuff."

Earlier this month, Kyrgios posted this Instagram video of his hitting session with Osaka captioned "Quick LA session with @naomiosaka πŸ₯ΆπŸŽ’ Analysing my serve to find any small detail…

"Her hunger to learn was pretty epic to see from a champ like her."

Osaka said she's pleased with her serving progress and is striving to "be unbreakable."

"I think it's going well," Osaka said. "I'm also working on my second serve, so hopefully I will get the miles per hour up, and then I will be unbreakable or I'll try my best to be."
