When McEnroe's band took the stage at the BNP Paribas Open, his tennis hero was in the crowd enjoying the show.

Watch McEnroe play the Tom Petty classic "Running Down a Dream," while Hall of Famer Rod Laver grooves right along with the audience.
McEnroe has long called fellow lefty Rod Laver "my tennis idol" and cited the legendary Aussie as his top tennis inspiration.
The Rocket braved the show without the aid of ear plugs.
