Del Potro, Harrison, Smyczek Awarded IW Wild Cards

Juan Martin del Potro will launch his comeback in the desert.

The 26-year-old Argentine has accepted a wild card into next week's Indian Wells Masters tournament.

Americans Tim Smyczek, Ryan Harrison, Denis Kudla and Austin Krajicek were also granted main-draw wild cards.

On the women's side, Nicole Gibbs, Bethanie Mattek-Sands, Taylor Townsend, Louisa Chirico, Grace Min, Sachia Vickery and Donna Vekic received main-draw wild cards.

It will be del Potro's first tournament appearance since he lost to Mikhail Kukushkin in the Sydney quarterfinals.

He underwent surgery on his left wrist at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. in January and has been rehabbing in Argentina and Florida and everywhere in between.

In his last Indian Wells' appearance, del Potro defeated Tommy Haas, Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic in succession to reach the 2013 final before losing to Rafael Nadal.

The right-handed del Potro has endured chronic injuries to both wrists. He beat both Nadal and Roger Federer to capture the 2009 U.S. Open title, but a right wrist injury restricted him to just three tournaments in 2010.

Surgery on Del Potro's left wrist limited him to just four tournaments last season.
