Unlikely Davis Cup hero Aleksandr Nedovyesov clinched Kazakhstan's 3-2 upset of Italy with a little help from Hawk-Eye on match point.

Watch match point at the 12-minute mark of the video.

Nedovyesov bangs an ace off the sideline — his 18th of the match — to apparently seal a 7-6 (5), 3-6, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 victory over Italian No. 1 Fabio Fognini.

But wait.

Fognini challenged the ace.

Hawk-Eye showed that shot had caught the edge of the sideline. Nedovyesov leaped into the arms of his captain and the crowd erupted as Kazakhstan advanced to the quarterfinal for the fourth time in five years.

The 130th-ranked Nedovyesov, who had exactly one Davis Cup singles match to his credit before stepping on court to face Fognini has had major Davis Cup moments before. In the 2014 quarterfinals in Geneva, he partnered Andrey Golubev to a four-set upset of Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka.
